Brief History of Solanzo Farm
– The Farm is composed of 5 contiguous lots totaling 8.5 hectares. The first 4 lots were forested when bought in the late 2018, with mostly wild and indigenous trees growing around. There were also coconut trees, wild rambutan, jackfruit, santol tree, and guyabano. After acquiring the property, the area was cleared and was planted with bamboo, cacao, and banana. Two ponds with golden tilapia and koi were the first attraction at the farm. This was followed by a male horse which was used to transport planting materials, fertilizers, and other stuff to the highest peak at the farm. Vermiculture was the first technology introduced at the farm as source of fertilizer for the growing crops. Two farmhouses with an office at the middle were built afterwards. Cuttings of dragon fruits and suckers of pineapple were later planted at the farm. A multi-purpose hall was constructed near the entrance that served as a holding area for guests and a lecture area as well. Within the hall is a storage area for farm equipment and instruments. Livestock such as free-range chicken, pigs, ducks, and rabbits were added as the farm continues to develop. Azolla, an aquatic fern, was grown on a pond as source of additional feeds for the growing livestock. Citronella grass grows in clumps at the farm. Aside from its many uses, it serves as a mosquito repellant at the farm. Bee colonies were also introduced for pollination of crops. When the fifth lot was acquired in the late 2020, clearing was started, and an area was planted to fruit-bearing trees and intercropped with lacatan bananas. The landscape design is slowly put in place and the farm contents like the vanilla maze, the 3 units of healing Labyrinth or healing wells, and the Bamboosetum will get underway. Future developments are also in place.
